"Cool" By: Ashley
The media has an aspect of cool that most people would not agree with. We don’t have to let our children be apart of such greediness. The media puts anything on television, internet, & etc. Our children seem to copy what they
think is cool, like mooks and midriffs; the media seem to think sex, violence and racist is cool. We need to solve these issues with media, and one solution is contact the media and let them know how society feels about what they are air on the media for our children to watch. Don’t let our children be the viaticum of what is suppose to be cool.
"Kids as Consumers" By: Melissa
Advertising in the media has much to do with the health of children. The media focuses their advertising and attention on young children in an aggressive way to sell their products. Food advertisements are very popular and have sneaky ways to catch the eye of a child. Toys are being added to the unhealthy meals, making fun of adults to make kids laugh and convince themselves that the product must be good if it is funny. Obesity has increased amongst children. The media is not concerned with the wellbeing of a child, their main focus is the money. Children are becoming obese and marketers are becoming rich.
"Kids as Consumers" By: Maria
In the 21st century any way we look at it, our teens and preteens are being run by media. From music, to movies, to clothes, and even food they analyze and analyze again the different ways of attracting and bringing in their purchasers,
even how to get kids to get parents to do what they want. They mediate from what our kids are wearing to what they are watching and what is considered “cool” and what it “lame”. It is impossible to eliminate all advertising because no matter
how we look at it ” money makes the world go‘round” , but we need to take a good look at what our kids are looking at and how truly important and necessary it us for their wellbeing.
"Health and Consumerism" By: Ebony
Advertisement companies will do whatever it takes to get their products recognized by children, even if it ultimately detrimental to the child consumer. The underhanded tactics used by advertising conglomerates to exploit
children are affecting the well-being of those children. Levels of obesity, anxiety, and depression have skyrocketed as advertising targets children directly. As kids try to keep up with all of latest trends in fashion, electronics, and video gaming, their mental well-being deteriorates as they struggle to stay relevant among their peers. Many parents do not agree with the advertising companies are targeting children or with the message that commercial advertising promotes. However, it is up to parents to regulate the media intake of their children. Parents must be advocates for their kids if there is ever a chance of decommercializing children.
"Racism" By: Margret
Racism has been on the media and always will be in the media. The media is going to produce what people like and what makes money. Racial discrimination has been in the media for so long it tells us what to think and how to unconsciously judge blacks. In a reading by Martin Gilens Why Americans Hate Welfare, it helps understand a sense of what the media is doing and what point they are trying to get across. The media has socially and racially discriminated against blacks.
